Cooking a simple dessert can save dollars at the store.
If you are one that loves to have that afternoon candy bar at your favorite store, you may need to determine the amount that you are spending each week, and then how much you are spending each month. That adds up to quite an amount that could be used on something else, perhaps a bill. Let's say you spend .69 cents for a candy bar each day. That adds up to a whopping $20.70 per month. In a years time, you have spent over $250.00. Add a soda to that, and your expenses have just doubled. If you have kids that you buy candy and soda for, your bill has just doubled or tripled. Save that cash, by following a few simple recipes, that are not only fresh, but contain no preservatives. Preparing a simple and easy candy right at home, can drastically reduce your costs. As can adding a bottled water (provided you buy it buy the case), or preparing tea right in your own kitchen. Below, you will find a recipe for Roasted Pecan Nuggets. They are very simple to prepare. By using small sandwich bags or ziploc bags, you can easily take the candy with you. Simply place the number of pieces that you want in each bag, and store in the refrigerator. When you are ready to go, just grab a bag and take it with you. Not only are you saving money, but you are getting a healthier product by making the candy right in your own kitchen. Roasted Pecan Nugget Candy 3 TBS butter or margarine 3 cups pecan peices, or whole pecans 3⁄4 lb. (6 squares) chocolate or almond bark Roast the pecans in the oven for just a few minutes to bring out an exceptional flavor in your candy. Melt butter in a 15-x10-x1-inch pan. Spread pecans evenly in pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Melt bark squares in top of a double boiler. Remove from heat and stir until smooth. Cool 2 minutes. Add pecans and stir until well coated. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto waxed paper. Before serving, let cool completely. Note: You can melt your chocolate in the microwave with less fuss. Just set the microwave on 3 minutes, check the chocolate and stir. Put back in for a couple of minutes if you need to. Potato Candy 1 large potato 1 box powdered sugar Peanut Butter Boil the potato, as if you were making mashed potatoes. Mash the potato until it is creamy. Mix in the powdered sugar. Do not add water. Roll out the potato mixture. Spread peanut butter over the entire surface. Starting on one side, roll the dough into a jelly roll. Carefully place on a plate, and set in the refrigerator to chill for about an hour. Take out, and cut into slices, You will have small pinwheel cookies when finished.
