You can prepare these pre-made cookie mixes as gifts, or prepare them for stocking your own kitchen pantry. The most important aspect of make ahead mixes is to clearly label the mix after it is prepared and be sure to include the instruction for using the mix in a place where it will not be forgotten. Quick, easy and fresh from the oven cookies are always just a step away with these convenient homemade cookie mixes.

Oatmeal Master Cookie Mix Recipe

  • 5 cups flour
  • 5 cups rolled oats
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt

  1. Mix the dry ingredients until well blended.
  2. Store the make ahead mix in a container with a tight fitting lid that will hold 4 quarts.
  3. Label the Mixture "Oatmeal Cookie Master Mix."
Making Jars of Oatmeal Cookie Mix for Gifts

To make a gift from the oatmeal cookie master mix prepared above, measure 4 cups of the mix and place it in quart size, canning jars. To decorate the top of the canning jar separate the lid from the ring. Cover the lid with decorative fabric and place the ring over the fabric. Label the front of the canning jar "Oatmeal Cookie Mix" and include the following recipe on the jar. These jars make great gifts at Christmas time.

Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

  • 1 jar oatmeal cookie mix (4 cups)
  • 1/2 cup milk soured with 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup of oil
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 3/4 cup coconut (optional)

  1. Combine all ingredients.
  2. Drop by the spoonful onto a greased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen oatmeal cookies.

Oaty Apple Crisp Recipe

  • 3/4 cup oatmeal cookie master mix
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 cups sliced apples
  • 2 tablespoons water

  1. Use a fork to cut the butter into the oatmeal cookie mix until it is crumbly.
  2. Add the sugar and cinnamon, mixing well.
  3. Grease an 8 x 8 pan with butter and layer with sliced apples.
  4. Sprinkle the apples with water.
  5. Sprinkle the oatmeal mixture over the apples.
  6. Bake the apple crisp at 375 for 35 minutes.
Alternatively you can use rhubarb as the fruit in the recipe above by increasing the amount of sugar from 1/4 cup to 2/3 cup.
