A plastic bag full of these and the threat to use the stun gun will keep the kids quiet on any family road trip.

I don’t care if the Bingo Bus left you, your sister in-law and her twelve kids are movin’ in, or you got word that you’re granny is getting’ out of prison early, and you’ve just sold her Bonneville, you can still turn a bad day into a good one with my Momma’s Homemade Trailer Park Cinnamon Treats. Not only are these little devils a taste sensation, but they’re easier to make than the ugly kid at the high school prom. I know the Boxcar clan love ‘em for breakfast, but their also perfect for that little meal snack. Why when my husband Dew shows up with unexpected guest or Pastor Ida Mae Bee comes a callin’ I just bake up a trip batch and top ‘em with vanilla ice cream for a great dessert. So regardless if you serve ‘em to your little ones when they get home from school, to your husband after spendin’ hours in the unemployment line, or as a lure to get your daddy into the trunk of the car so you can take him back to the assisted livin’ center, you’ve got about as much of a chance of these bein’ a hit as you’ve got findin’ chocolate in a fat lady’s purse.

(RECIPE)

MOMMA’S HOMEMADE TRAILER PARK CINNAMON TREATS

Makes 8 treats

  • 4 slices white bread without the crust
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon milk
  • Dash vanilla extract

  1. Flatten out the bread with your hands. Butter 'em up. Set aside.
  2. Mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle it on each piece of bread. Tightly role up one of the piece of bread. Stick a toothpick on each end, and cut it in half. Repeat with the rest of the bread. Place on a tray; heat it in the oven 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Take out of the oven and usin’ a spatula; carefully take the pieces from the hot cookie sheet to a plate.
  3. Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract together, and pour the mixture over each piece. Serve warm.
  4. You can reheat 'em individually in the microwave by bakin’ for 3 to 5 seconds.
If you want a different taste substitute orange juice, pancake syrup, or even apple juice for the milk when makin’ the frostin’ mixture.

If you save the crust from the bread, you can tear ‘em into bite size pieces, dip ‘em in the butter, dip ‘em in the sugar cinnamon mixture, and bake ‘em in the oven as well. Then coat ‘em with the frostin’ and place in the fridge for 30 to 45 minutes. These are really good ice cold with milk on hot days or even better when served warm on cold days. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with either recipe. Enjoy!
