This easy dessert can be made ahead or on the run, and will be a hit at any gathering.

The Mandarin Orange Salad is a quick and easy dessert to make at a moment’s notice. This dessert can be made in five minutes, and is a tasty hit at any gathering. You do need to refrigerate the salad until it is time to serve it, or it will slowly melt and separate. Keep covered and out of the sun, and prepare to enjoy a cool, refreshing and sweet treat.

Ingredients for Mandarin Orange Salad

To make this super simple dessert, you need to gather together the following ingredients:

  • One tub of cool whip
  • One box of orange Jell-O mix
  • One 8 ounce tub of cottage cheese
  • One can of Mandarin orange slices
  • One small can of crushed pineapple

One of the best parts of this dessert is the fact that you purchase exactly the right amount of each ingredient. You can even keep some of these ingredients on hand to minimize your need for shopping at the last minute before going to a party.

How to Make Mandarin Orange Salad

You will need a large bowl to mix this dessert in. If you have a bowl and large spoon with you, you can make this dessert on the run as well. A quick stop at the grocery store to purchase the ingredients and you are set. Use the shopping bag as a trash bag to store each empty container, and use the empty cool whip and cottage cheese containers to drain the juice from the mandarin oranges and pineapple. If you make this treat on the run, be sure to purchase the mandarin orange slices and pineapple that have an easy open lid so that you do not need a can opener with you.

To make this salad, you will mix each ingredient in a large bowl:

  1. Mix together the cool whip and the cottage cheese
  2. Mix in the orange jello
  3. Stir well, ensuring that all of the jello powder is mixed in
  4. Drain the juice from the mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple and add them to the salad
  5. Fold the fruit into the salad, making sure that everything is mixed together

This is a great dessert to take to any gathering, whether a summer pool party or a festive holiday gathering. The simple list of ingredients makes this an easy dish to remember on the run.

This is one of my favorite salads. I have it on hand a few days a month to munch on when I get hungry. If you use sugar free jello, fat free cool whip and 2% cottage cheese it is a healthy snack choice.
