With its unique flavor and creamy consistency, using Nutella in recipes results in desserts that taste great and that are also simple to make.

Nutella is a chocolate hazelnut spread similar to nut butters only creamier and sweeter. Great for spreading on breakfast pastries, topping ice cream or frosting a cake, Nutella also works well in baking and as a substitute for peanut butter. The two ideas below are simple, kid-friendly dessert recipes that quickly become favorites. Using only a few ingredients found in most kitchens, they are an easy-to-make option when a great tasting dessert is needed fast. The chocolate hazelnut flavor is not overpowering, but it is unique enough to make anyone eating these treats take notice.

Nutella Dessert Roll Ups

A cross between cinnamon rolls and sopapillas (fried tortillas common in Latin American and Mexican cuisine), these dessert roll ups made with Nutella spread are a quick and delicious way to end a meal. They would also make a great choice for dessert parties, baby showers or after-school treats. While they do require sweet ingredients, the quantities are reasonable so indulging in one or two is not going to ruin a diet.

Ingredients

  • 1 10-inch flour tortilla
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella spread

Directions

  1. Place tortilla on rack in a toaster oven. Toast at 350° for three to four minutes.
  2. While the tortilla toasts, combine sugar and cinnamon in a small mixing bowl.
  3. Add the butter and Nutella to the cinnamon-sugar mixture, and blend until creamy.
  4. Remove the tortilla from toaster oven, and place on a large platter or cutting board.
  5. Spread the Nutella mixture evenly on the tortilla.
  6. Roll up the tortilla, and then cut into even slices.

Note: This recipe is makes approximately eight roll ups using one flour tortilla. For larger serving sizes, simply repeat the process for each tortilla.

Nutella Flourless Cookies

For a cookie recipe with only three ingredients and no flour, these cookies pack a flavorful punch. Thanks to the Nutella, they have a rich chocolate taste with a hint of hazelnut. The texture of these simple cookies is unlike most others. It is light yet slightly gooey, the perfect bite-size treat. Although adults may need to supervise mixing the egg and using the oven, this recipe is simple enough for most children to make on their own.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Nutella spread
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Spray baking sheets with cooking spray such as Pam.
  3. In a small bowl, mix all ingredients until creamy and smooth.
  4. Form into one-inch bowls and place on the greased baking sheets.
  5. If desired, dip a fork in water and make crisscrosses on the top of cookies like peanut butter cookie recipes suggest.
  6. Bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and let cookies set three to five minute on the baking sheets.
  8. Remove from baking sheets and let cool.
