Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner can be stressful. Use easy recipes for chocolate desserts that will please both young and old. Two recipes, one page.

Here are two easy recipes guaranteed to excite anyone’s holiday. Both are desserts that are fast and so easy cooks will wonder why it took so long to learn them and hungry patrons will think it took all day to make them.

Holidays all have their purposes, but they turn into gatherings of families and friends that may not see each other if these things weren‘t celebrated Let it be easy and not stress-filled, too many times a family chef is frazzled by the time the meal is served.

Bring something or ask everyone to bring something and take the pressure off someone for providing for everyone. Everyone gets to talk recipes and compliments and there’s no competition for having every single thing perfect. The recipes that follow will please young and old alike.

The First Easy Recipe for Holiday Dessert

Remember, the best of chefs have their cooking secrets, and sometimes they’re necessary to evoke the proper compliments and appreciation. The very same applies to those who choose to make this first dessert recipe.

You will need:

  • A box cake mix (yes, box cake mix, any flavor you like)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • ¼ cup chocolate syrup
  • Paper cupcake liners
  • Cupcake pans
  • A fork or eggbeater
  • A spoon to mix with

Directions:

  1. Follow the directions on the cake box.
  2. In another bowl, add the beaten egg, cream cheese and chocolate syrup and mix it thoroughly.
  3. Distribute paper cups to all the cups in the pan(s).
  4. Fill each cup2/3 full with the cake batter.
  5. Take one well-rounded teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture and put it on the top of each cupcake. It will sink a little, that’s okay.
  6. Bake according to the directions on the cake box, testing it with a toothpick to make sure it’s done. This testing must be done on the side of the place where the cream cheese is. Another test can be done by pressing the cake with your finger and if it dents in, it isn’t done yet. If it springs back slowly, it’s likely to be done.
  7. When done, remove from the oven and place on cooling rack for ten minutes before removing from the pan.
  8. Frost with whatever frosting pleases the chef.

These cupcakes come out with surprising creamy middles that will make the family think they were slaved over. Nobody knows the filling is there until they take a bite. Don’t tell anyone the box cake mix trick and let it be a little secret.

Easy Recipe #2; Chocolate Fondue

Here’s another recipe that’s fast and easy to whip up at the last minute. You will need:

  • 1 generous cup heavy cream
  • 9 oz semi-sweet chocolate bar or pieces
  • 2 Tbsp. Brandy (optional)
  • Fondue forks or long kabob spears
  • Fondue pot - or double boiler
  • A spoon for stirring
  • Small bowls for individual servings (optional)
  • A ladle for putting it in the bowls, if necessary

  1. Put heavy cream and chocolate pieces into the top of the preheated double boiler.
  2. Stir until mixed well and melted smooth.
  3. Add 2 Tbsp. Brandy (optional, it makes the chocolate stay creamy when cooled and not harden).
  4. Mix well.
Chocolate Dessert Dippers

Now that it’s finished, get some things to dip in the chocolate. Here are some great ideas:

  • Sliced Apples
  • Sliced Pears
  • Sliced Peaches
  • Raisins
  • Orange Sections
  • Lemon Sections
  • Grapefruit Sections
  • Sponge Cake Squares
  • Marshmallows - big and small, colored and white
  • Blueberries
  • Cherries
  • Strawberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Watermelon
  • Dried Fruits, like Apricots
  • Candied Orange Peels

Cut these things into chunks, spears or slices. Take a plateful to the table along with the fondue pot and pass out fondue forks or skewers.

Be careful when serving small children, they shouldn’t be able to reach the hot pan. It’s a good idea to bring a ladle with small bowls to fill with individual servings of the melted chocolate to youngsters.

Enjoy!
