Ingredients For Apple Fritters
¼ cup corn flour
½ teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
1 egg white, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon iced water
2 green apples, peeled (if you want to) and cut into wedges. Each apple should give you 12-16 wedges.
Oil for deep frying
Ingredients For Special Syrup
Optional but really delicious: Syrup
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Optional: 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds extra for serving
Method For Making Apple Fritters
- Place cornflour, sugar and seeds into a small bowl
- Make a well in the centre
- Add egg white and water
- Beat until mixture is smooth and free of lumps
- Tip enough oil into a pan to come 2-3cm up the sides
- Heat the oil – To test oil temperature drip a few drops of water from your fingers into the oil. The oil is hot enough if the water sizzles and spins and quickly evaporates.
- Add apples to the batter a few at a time and gently stir until coated
- Using a fork place coated apples a few at a time into the hot oil
- Cook over a medium heat until golden
- Remove fritters from the oil using a slotted spoon, tongs or egg flip
- Drain on paper towels
- Repeat process until all the apples are cooked
- Transfer to serving plates
Method For Making The Syrup
- Combine sugar, water and juice in a small saucepan
- Stir over low heat for about five minutes or until all the sugar has dissolved
- Bring to the boil for about 10 seconds then reduce heat and simmer uncovered without stirring for about 8 minutes or until syrup is light and golden in colour.
- Immediately remove from heat and drizzle over the fritters
- Sprinkle with extra sesame seeds
Serve immediately.
This recipe is delicious served with ice cream or cream. You can add a dusting of cinnamon sugar over the cream or ice-cream if you like to add a little extra dimension to this recipe. It also looks pretty.
